And in France torrential rains turned into snowfall. The tracks turned into many kilometers of snowdrifts. Thousands of motorists spent the whole night in a traffic jam. People abandoned their cars on the road and went to makeshift shelters, such as gyms in schools.
“I was afraid to leave my car, but in the end I spat on everything and left - I was tired of sitting and was very cold,” said a man who found himself in such a traffic jam.
