Mark Smith explains how the figure of Yahweh in Bible absorbed language, elements and attributes of other deities from Ancient Israel polytheistic background, Ugarit culture and Mesopotamian religion; and was then made become the Unique God of the tradition particularly under the pressure of Assyrian and Babylonian expansionism.
